Fish oil, a type of food that contains many essential nutrients needed by human body. Fish oil supplements are usually derived from marine and cold deep water fish that is extracted from cod liver or salmon fatty tissue.

The habit of consuming fish oil has many health benefits, because fish oil rich in omega-3 fatty acids. One of the benefits of consuming fish oil is to help avoid the risk of visual impairment.

Omega-3 is a vital component for the health of the retina. There is a possibility if one deficiency of this substance, it will be more susceptible to age-related macular degeneration (AMD) because the cells in the retina of the eye always had a natural degeneration.

AMD is a condition progressively worsening vision and can not be improved, because of thinning and bleeding around the macula or central retina. People with AMD are mostly aged 60 years and over, usually lose the ability to see in detail. In some severe cases, people with AMD may be blind but still have little ability to see.

Some previous research reported that increased consumption of fish or fish oil have an impact on decreasing risk of death from heart attack. This fact was then led to the idea that fish oil can balance or stabilize the heart rhythm.
